Reformulating later means stability testing, regulatory updates, revalidation, and commercial risk. Even when a better solution emerges, the cost of change becomes the barrier.
This dynamic quietly penalizes late discovery. By the time many ingredients surface on a formulator’s radar, decisions have already been made and roadmaps are locked. At that point, the discussion shifts from “is this better?” to “is it worth the disruption?” In practice, most ingredients don’t lose because they underperform—they lose because they arrived too late in the process.
