Google and AI Are Changing How Branded Ingredients Get Discovered

NXT Ingredients® traffic data shows how search-driven research is becoming part of the ingredient discovery and evaluation process.
Visibility is valuable. Ingredient discovery at the moment of research is even more valuable.

In July, 81,868 sessions—more than 62% of all NXT Ingredients® traffic—came through Organic Search and AI Assistants. Both channels achieved engagement rates above 95%, with visitors spending approximately eight minutes per session reviewing ingredient, scientific, application, and supplier information.

Organic Search alone generated 69,506 sessions, overwhelmingly from Google, with visitors spending an average of 8 minutes and 9 seconds on NXT Ingredients®. AI Assistants generated another 12,362 sessions, with visitors averaging 7 minutes and 59 seconds.

These were not passive advertising impressions. They were research-driven visits from people actively looking for ingredient and formulation information.

The Discovery Process Is Changing

For years, branded ingredients have gained visibility through trade shows, print advertising, distributor relationships, sales outreach, webinars, and industry publications. All of these channels continue to play an important role.

But the research process increasingly begins somewhere else.

A formulator may begin with Google. A product-development team may consult an AI assistant. A brand executive may search for a clinically studied ingredient that supports a specific benefit. A manufacturer may investigate suppliers, applications, dosage levels, scientific evidence, or formulation compatibility before contacting anyone.

That means ingredient discovery is becoming more stremlined, more search-driven, and more closely connected to the questions professionals are asking during active product development.

Professionals Search Differently From Consumers

Someone shopping for a finished supplement may search for:

  • Best supplement for menopause
  • What helps with joint discomfort?
  • Best nootropic for focus

A formulator, manufacturer, or supplement brand is more likely to search for:

  • Clinically studied menopause ingredient
  • Branded ingredient for joint health
  • Nootropic ingredient supplier
  • Bioavailable curcumin for formulation
  • Natural ingredient for glucose metabolism

The terminology is different because the objective is different.

Consumers are searching for products to purchase. Industry professionals are searching for ingredients to evaluate, formulate with, source, and commercialize.

NXT Ingredients® is built around that professional research process. Each ingredient page is designed to help visitors quickly understand what the ingredient is, what it supports, how it is differentiated, what science is available, where it may fit within a formulation, who supplies it, and how to request additional information.

That structure closely matches the way brands, formulators, manufacturers, procurement teams, and product developers search when they are actively evaluating ingredient solutions.

Why the Engagement Matters

Traffic volume alone does not tell the full story.

A website visitor who arrives and leaves after a few seconds may have found the page irrelevant. But visitors arriving through Organic Search and AI Assistants spent approximately eight minutes per session on NXT Ingredients®.

That level of engagement suggests they were not merely glancing at a logo or promotional message. They were spending time reviewing ingredient pages, applications, science, supplier information, and related content.

The data does not prove that every visitor was a qualified buyer or that every session resulted in a commercial opportunity. But it does provide strong evidence that NXT is attracting research-oriented visitors with a meaningful interest in ingredient and formulation information. Again, very different from most tradeshow interactions.

This is what separates high-intent discovery traffic from ordinary advertising exposure.

What This Means for Ingredient Companies

Many ingredient companies have strong science, innovative technologies, and credible products—but still struggle to gain traction because the U.S. market does not yet know their ingredient exists.

This is particularly relevant for companies in Europe, India, Asia, and other international markets seeking greater visibility among U.S.-based brands, manufacturers, and formulators.

A well-developed NXT ingredient page can serve as an always-on U.S.-facing discovery asset. It can clearly communicate the ingredient’s value, applications, differentiators, and supporting evidence before a sales conversation begins.

This does not replace a distributor, sales team, trade-show presence, or company website. It strengthens those efforts by making the ingredient easier to find and evaluate during the research process.

The commercial principle is simple:

An ingredient cannot be considered, sampled, specified, or formulated with until someone first discovers it.

An optimized presence on NXT Ingredients® gives your ingredient two paths to discovery: visibility through Google and AI-assisted research, and exposure to the concentrated audience of brands, manufacturers, formulators, and product developers already using NXT to identify and evaluate ingredient solutions.

What This Means for Brands, Manufacturers, and Formulators

The same shift also benefits the people responsible for developing finished products.

Ingredient sourcing can be inefficient. Information may be scattered across supplier websites, presentations, scientific papers, trade-show materials, and email exchanges. It may take multiple conversations simply to determine whether an ingredient fits a project.

NXT Ingredients® is designed to shorten that process by organizing branded ingredient information around the questions product-development professionals are already asking. Many members of our audience tell us they can understand the essential information about an ingredient in less than 60 seconds.

For brands, manufacturers, formulators, and procurement teams, this creates a more efficient way to:

  • Discover unfamiliar branded ingredients
  • Research specific health applications
  • Compare ingredient positioning
  • Review science and differentiation
  • Identify potential suppliers
  • Request documentation, pricing, samples, and MOQ information

The goal is not simply to provide more ingredients. It is to help professionals identify the right ingredients more efficiently, while reducing the delays that often come with searching for information, identifying suppliers, and requesting documentation. NXT dramatically accelerates the discovery and evaluation process..

NXT’s Role in the Modern Research Workflow

Traditional industry media builds awareness. Trade shows create introductions. Sales teams develop relationships and move opportunities forward.

NXT Ingredients® plays a different role: it helps branded ingredients become visible, discoverable, and easier to understand by presenting the information professionals need in a format designed for faster evaluation—As a result, when a prospect does make contact, they may already understand what the ingredient does, why it is different, and how it could fit their project.

NXT does not replace trade media, trade shows, or sales teams. It adds another path to discovery and adoption into formulas. It’s role is to help turn initial interest into a more informed commercial conversation.

Discovery Comes Before Consideration

The ingredient discovery process is evolving.

Google and AI are a part of how formulators, manufacturers, supplement brands, and product-development teams discover and investigate your ingredients as a potential formulation solution.

NXT Ingredients® is already anchored in that shift. The July, Organic Search and AI Assistant number of sessions, along with it’s greater than eight minutes of engagement per session is confirmation. This indicates that NXT is increasingly being sourced and accessed during active ingredient research, not simply through passive advertising exposure.

For ingredient companies, that means another opportunity to make branded ingredients visible, understandable, and easier to be evaluated while potential customers are still researching their options.

For brands, manufacturers, and formulators, it means faster access to branded ingredient options, scientific information, supplier details, and formulation solutions that may otherwise have remained undiscovered.

Visibility creates awareness. Discovery at the moment of research creates the opportunity to be considered.
